Year of Women Basketball in Europe

We present: Lidija Varbanova

She is a player, who knows that sucsess become in passion.
Lidija also knew the Game, and try to fight up to final of the match.
As a talant, who believe, that every game is a tough battle.
For her describtion of sucsess is to everybody finish his job on the court.
Lidija Varbanova will play for Division 1st team Tarsus Belediyesi in season 2006/07.

Well, you are in Tarsus. How you sing with this team?
Lidija: Thanks to my management agency. They cover this agreement. I was wanted to stop to play
but, when they offer me a contract, i said "yes" for one more season.

Wich teams you played for?
Lidija: I was played 2 seasons in Macedonia. Before i was at Italy and Turkey.

Wwhen were you last time in Bulgaria?
Lidija: O, long time ago. I was at Kremikovtzi team. At 1989.

You play for World and European championship with national team.
Do you remember something interesting from that time?
Lidija: Yes, i was great time for each of us. It was 3 rd position at Europe, after that 5th.
I was too young. But after that bulgarian women basketball dont grew up.
I hope to see young player there.

Is the reason to be strong is only finansial part? Which other is important to you?
Lidija: You know, at this time for us was big honour to play for national team.
everybody want to improve yourself to be at national level. I dont know now wich is the reason.
Much of the young player dont feel the same.

Do you have a friend from national team?
Lidija: Yes, my friend is Albena Branzova. We are together at turkish Botas,
after that - at Israel. It was good friendship, indeed.

How you start to play basketball?
Lidija: Im born at Varna. So, there was my first meeting with basketball.
The first coach of mine was Simeon Varchev and Tzanka Vartcheva.
Firstly, i was training athletics. After i like basketball, and normally, go to practise.
I have good time with Ivan Lepichev, one coaches of mine.

Wich is the Tarsus`s targets?
Lidija: Team is for the first time at division 1st. So, here is a little inexperience.
But i think, they want to be at play-off.

What are you willing do after the end of your career?
Lidija: I must finish my college. Maybe try coaching, but only with children.

Your dream?
Lidija: To born 2 more babies.

If you said somebody "Thank you"...
Lidija: This is one guy, his name is Tommy Suck, wich one help me so much at USA.
We got more than 15 years long friendship.

Do you have an Idol?
Lidija: Yes, bulgarian player Evladija Slavcheva. As my youngtime, i was make pano from her picture and mine.
I was put this on wall. Funny, but at that time we make something like that.

What did you buy with your 1st salary?
Lidija: Hah! I was buy one villa for my family. This time it cost 5,000 marcs
